Medical herbalism

Herbal medicine has an amazing deep & long history reflecting traditional use such as depicted in the Materica Medica of Dioscorides written 2000 years ago in Greece. This traditional use continued for many years – for instance, if you lived England in the 17th century & experienced your heart skipping beats, pounding or racing the local herbalist  might have offered you motherwort to use.

If you experience your heart skipping beats, pounding or racing in the 21st  century & visit an medical herbalist they may still offer you motherwort to use. However, after taking time to obtain a full medical history from you the herbalist may recognise that your heart palpitations indicate a medical condition & refer you to a conventional practitioner.

It is this herbal historical tradition, coupled with up-to-date scientific medical knowledge that makes herbal medicine so pertinent for people today. I am excited to bring both strands together in order to support clients to realise their health goals.
